Volunteer Opportunities

|

San Leandro Hospital is looking for individuals who want to make a difference in other people's lives. Volunteers perform a variety of important functions including greeting patients and visitors, delivering flowers and mail, staffing the gift shop, transporting patients, supporting patients' friends and family, and working on special projects for the administrative team.
People who volunteer their time and talents often speak about the sense of fulfillment they derive from their volunteerism. This is particularly true of volunteers at San Leandro Hospital. Within the healing environment of the hospital, our volunteers become a vital part of the health care team. It can be proudly satisfying to be involved in the hospital’s mission. Our volunteers tell us their lives are further enhanced by the fun and friendship shared with other volunteers. From our perspective, we feel blessed for the service provided by our volunteers. Our patients, visitors, staff and physicians are deeply grateful for the generosity of our volunteers.
Since its inception in 1972, members of the Auxiliary have donated in excess of one-half million hours of volunteer service to the hospital. Among the current group of volunteers are individuals who have been with the Auxiliary from the start as well as those who have only recently joined the group.

Becoming A Volunteer

|
No experience is necessary to become a volunteer. Individuals from a variety of backgrounds make for good volunteers: retirees, working adults, stay-at-home parents, and spouses of executives. Volunteers are asked to make a one-year commitment of three-and-one-half hours of volunteer service each week. After successful completion of an application and interview, new volunteers are provided an orientation and a six-week training program.
